Demonstrations

ConsenCUS develops electrochemical innovations for capturing CO2 and converting it to useful chemicals. An important target of the project is to demonstrate the viability of these innovations in real industrial environments. We will build a mobile unit that will be connected to the flue gas outlets of three major European industrial sites (cement production, oil refinery and magnesite production).

We will capture and convert up to 0.1 ton/h the sites’ CO2 to learn our technology’s optimal operation conditions, taking into account different CO2 concentrations and impurities.

The end goal for the ConsenCUS technology is to reach TRL7, operating the unit at intermediate scale in actual industrial conditions.

Denmark

Aalborg Portland’s Rørdal cement production site. Following commissioning of the demo plant, the short-term demonstration cycle will include a preliminary test and a parametric screening study.

Romania

Flue gas stack and location for capture & conversion units at OMV Petrom’s Petrobrazi refinery. The long-term test cycles will focus on solvent stability. The scope of the long-term test cycles is to perform >1000 h tests.

Greece

Satellite view of the Yerakini Mine in Chalkidiki, Greece, operated by Grecian Magnesite. The unit will be installed close to Rotary Kiln No.3, in the red squared area. The long-term test cycles will focus on solvent stability and accumulation of unwanted residues. The scope of the long-term test cycles is to perform >1000 h tests.
