Wetsus

Wetsus, European Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology, is a water research institute located in Leeuwarden (The Netherlands). Wetsus carries out multidisciplinary research performed by 60 PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in the field of desalination, water treatment, and renewable energies. Our main goal is to facilitate breakthrough innovations for water technology, by promoting a long-term collaboration with all the actors involved in the water sector, such as public/private companies, universities, and policy makers at regional, national and European level. To date, Wetsus has created a unique working environment where more than 130 companies worldwide and 20 European knowledge institutes collaborate to create innovative solutions to water-related problems.

Within the ConsenCUS project, Wetsus will lead the R&D activities on the optimization and upscaling of the CO₂ capture technology (WP2), based on experience gained on water electrochemistry within the Wetsus ‘Sustainable Carbon Cycle’ theme. In particular, Wetsus will focus on strategies to optimization, design, and construction of the pilot-scale electrochemical regeneration unit, which will be tested in the three field-test locations at industrially-relevant current densities (1-10 kA/m²). In particular we will introduce Michele Tedesco as part of this team.
